Chapter 1: Know your shrooms. When in deep wilderness, days away from civilisation, you must become one with your surroundings to survive. The wilderness is a cruel and un-forgiving place, few come out unscathed.  Food is your first objective, and lots of it. If you are reading this at night, when the undead are on the prowl for weary travellers, then you are actually in a good position. Take time out from smiting those undead hooligans to sit and prepare equipment for the next day. Check your food supply, weapons and armour. A great thing to carry with you into the wilderness is your trusty flint and steel. This can be used to outstanding effect if used correctly. Find a swine of good proportions and simply set it alight! Let the pig burn to death peacefully then collect the pork. However, there is a twist to this pork, it's cooked for you! The fire cooks the pork for you instead of you finding cobble and coal for a furnace that you will leave behind anyway. This can be done multiple times until the flint is broken. Now, forget what your instincts tell you, because sometimes, darkness is our greatest ally. Check dimly lit areas for mushrooms of both kinds. However don't venture into a cave for that sole purpose, it may lead to disaster! Check under trees or at the beginning of a cave instead. If, like in most cases you find mushrooms under a tree, gather them. Then using the wood from the tree, fashion yourself a workbench , and with spare planks, create an appropriate amount of bowls for your mushrooms!
