1696 The Return of the Archmage pt. 2 edronos ::Day 3 :: I've learned a few things in the last two days. Firstly, Hwaldar wishes to spearheard a guild to rival the Mages'. It's doubtful he'll get far. By now, he's spouted foggy threats that will likely amount to smoke. Secondly, there is a spy within the Guild itself. :: Bell came to me today with a strange book that detailed a meeting I had with the Arcane Mage. It mentioned me by my full name, which is strange as I don't give out my surname to anyone... Also, the author claims that I spoke about Hwaldar, about how he's a sleeper agent for the Undead. However, in saying so, the author said too much. :: That night, in the Tower, I said nothing of Hwaldar, as far as I can recall. The topic of discussion was Whisperer, as I had written a small treatise on the voidwalker meant for the Arcane Mage to review. In fact, Hwaldar was barely touched upon until his return, some time after. Possibly, this ghostwriter believes Whisperer and Hwaldar to be one and the same. It's not entirely farfetched, as Hwaldar has admitted friendship with the voidwalker, and Whisperer has admitted ties with the Undead. Just as well, with the stir amongst the magi, the two names find conversation hand-in-hand. Regardless, Hwaldar has taken on an entirely different face, for now. Sleeper agent, this author says? I'll have to investigate. :: Moreover, if this book is valid, it means there is a foreign agent within the Guild, and he made the mistake of being too specific and left it behind. There were only two others, that I know of, in the Tower that night: Cataris and a certain "Frozen Blade". I have reasons to supsect both of them. I would also like to note that nobody writes unless they mean to be read. Could this be a ruse meant to serve as impetus of more internal strife? I don't know, exactly . :: Lastly, the book mentioned one last thing. It revealed that "both guilds are watching Hwaldar closely." Bell believes this second guild is a reference to the Undead. Possibly. However, I cannot confirm as there is too little to go on. Hwaldar mentioned a rival guild he wanted to start. Maybe he's planted a spy to watch over his investments? Or, maybe the book was planted to further reinforce the notion of another guild? Too many questions have spawned as a result of this mysterious text. :: I will seek to answer these questions, but my name is beginning to reach too many people's ears already. This book Bell showed me hasn't helped.
