1706 War - Volume II Crippledbaboon This next installment shall be on the tricks of conquest. How to build yourself a sturdy cannon. How to find your way inside a fortification and slay the damned leader of your enemies. And of course. How to raise a capable army of loyal troops. When war is afoot and you are a responsible general or at the least, high in command. You must first send out a message across the land calling for able troops to join your honourable masters army. Once all volounteers have gathered in your city square * make sure it is in your capital. It is a place of safety and history, a fine place to muster troops. * you must give an almighty speech, to rally and encourage these loyal men. War is a tough time and it calls for sacrifice. Let them know this, if they arrive with the fear of death in their minds, cast them out. For this is not were they belong. In war, each man woman and child is a target, you shall need these men to know that. They must know that in war, men give their lives to protect the people. Once your grand speech is over, ask your new soldiers to enter the local barracks for this is where they shall be assigned their new position in the army. Once all men have now been armed, armoured, fed and taught the ways of war. You must assign them around your capital positions in the streets and on the walls. Keep two or three men with your royal family at all times. Once this is done you may begin your war plan as you see fit. First you must call upon a scout to know your enemies movements and what not. To prevent your foes from doing the same send out patrols of three to 4 soldiers around the outskirts of the capital and other key locations. You must not let scouts inside or enemy soldiers. However if a peasant from enemy settlements enters your capital have them watched very carefully, ask them their business. Do not have them arrested on sight, they genuinely may be seeking a safer haven from the war. Although, this could be a spy or saboteur. Once your scout has come back from his mission, gather your smartest and most tactical men, in both war and diplomacy. And string together a grand mission. Take note, wars are not one by grand battles alone. Patience is the key, engage in small raids on settlements, clearing out the enemy and creating a sense of security in the area. Do this repeatedly to all small villages. Once you reach a town of good proportions, have a scout enter the town again. Checking the strength of the walls, the mind-state of the troops and citizens. Once this is done, have the scout return and give his review. If the walls are of ample strength, muster together able technicians to create a cannon. Now, a cannon is a very technical thing that few know how to create. It is to be made on the site of the walls, no more than 20 paces away. Any farther and it shall have no effect. The cannon must be built at the time of the siege, any earlier and the townsmen will have time to remove it. Once the cannon is built, fire into the enemy walls and allow your men to enter cautiously. Once inside the town send men out in pairs to scour the streets. Stick to alleyways and make sure to sneak, do not run. You may fall into an ambush. Once the streets are safe place one or 2 men at the broken down wall so nobody may enter behind you. With the rest of your men, gather at the main courtyard and begin searching for the towns highest of order. Eliminate them, and the town is yours. Assure the townsfolk that you mean them no harm and are fighting for the greater good of Aegis. Continue all these steps and youa re sure to win the war. Get out there soldier! Aegis needs YOU! coughs* And ale...
