4411 The Diary of Zeruel Skov zeruel Day 1: Seeing the bright light of day again is harsh to my eyes, I may have to get glasses... Day 2: Al'khazar looks much different from when I was put into the deep, the walls are higher the buildings are more expensive, and the Minas dosen't go as far as it did before... I tried to get a job at the local mine, but now they insist that I get a permit! A Permit!? To Mine?! what is this? I spent years toiling in that work camp and now you say I have to BUY a permit to toil in it some more? rubbish Day 3: My minas are running short, I fear I wont be able to live in the city much longer. I spent the night on the street, can't help but think of those beggars from my childhood Day 6: I spent the last of my minas on some food and a pair of ruddy leather greaves, I decided to leave the city and head north, I know the undead carry the cash they carried from thier days in amoungst the living, Perhaps I'll find a nice place to settle and build a little shack. Day 7: first night in the wilds, its cold out here, perhaps I shouldn't have bought those specticles and bought a warmer tunic, haven't found any food yet, running low on reserves... Day 10: So cold, I struggle to write this as my fingers grow more numb with each passing second, no food, no reasonable shelter, I see crafting tables and torches spread around the landscape, it tells me that I am not the first one to attempt such a journey. I wonder the fate of the others before me Day 12: found a chicken, I killed it and ate it raw just to stave off the inevitable, encountered the first of the undead, a group of zombies, moving sluggishly in the cold. I managed to evade them and continue north. t Day 13: surprisingly warm today, found a penninsula jutting out into a body of warm water, I suppose there is a god, and he has sent this blessing to me. I have discovered though that the further north you go, the number of undead I encounter goes up exponentially I found a makeshift quarry nearby that someone else started, I found his remains laying in the corner clutching a pickaxe. I took it up and did what I did best. I dug out a vast cavern Day 20: I feel I may just make it, discovering that I can recover the apples of nearby trees has done wonders, the cavern I have been digging has become very wide, but unfortunatly the stone below is far to hard to break through, my building supplies are growing very large Day 60: the Keep is completed, A simple wall right now, but I plan a much grander design. I managed to put in a small farm and plan to reenforce the wall. Day 65: built some shelters the cavern below is giant now, every so often I find the undead crawling from the earth and moving toward me, as if they know I live just above them. forged a sword from some iron I managed to dig up. was able to dispatch them with little difficulty. Day 70: Met another poor soul today, in even worse condition then I was when I got here, ran into a group of those pig demons, and was injured pretty badly. took him in and treated his wounds as best I could, but he passed shortly after, I buried him just outside the wall and came to the conclusion that I would never turn away anyone that came to my doorstep. I turned the keep into more of a monastary, I hope that I can at least be of some help to anyone that passes by. Day 93: I am no longer alone, It appears as though civilization is catching up with me, to the south west a large factory is being built, I question if this will bring more travelers. Day 156: the Factory has been completed i hear the men work when the wind blows in my direction, and indeed the number of people traveling north has increased, I can hardly keep up with demand. I fear that soon I must go further north, to escape the encoraching city. But that option is not without risk, I know the undead citadel is in that direction and the closer I get to the structure the more likely I am to garner notice by them. I must choose carefully. Day 160: I met with the people at the factory, and even managed to work out a deal with the owner to buy thier products at facotry direct prices, this will help with the demand, but I must admit that the sheer number of people I've encountered lately has been making me uncomfortable. Perhaps it is time to move... Day 180: I now have a neighbor. Alfin Who I am convinced is a dwarf, although it is hard to tell. my remote outpost is no longer very remote. I wonder how useful my refuge is now... Day 185: I have decided, to find more purpose in my life, I must move. I will travel further north, and hope that the undead don't find me. I will miss the people at the factory. especially Zyn, who has shown me great kindness. I intend to come back and visit often, but a more remote location is required I feel. I shall leave this diary and most of the supplies I have gathered here, in hopes that some will still find use for it. to anyone that reads this: I hope you will travel further north and find me in your travels. and to all those in the Factory, Thanks. you have shown me the first kindness since my release from the dark of prison. for that I am forever greatful.
