625 E'ashtai's Field Log thesquatlobster This book begins when I have taken command of fort Gold for the legion, due to the disappearance of our previous commander, Fyrste_Dalek. He left on a hunting trip and was last seen heading nort h, just at the time of the undead invasion beginning; hope for his safe return is low:: read ing of his disappearance, i made sure to search the northlands for any traces of signs of him. Alas, none were to be found. In these dark days of the undead hordes I must be ready to take martial control of the town; with my few legionnaries here there is no way we could hold back the undead. What was needed was a militia, as all dwarfs have fighting in our blood. Should the city be attacked, it would be but a matter of time before help would come. I am confident in my dwarfs and the ones of the town that we could hold them at bay should the da y come.:: I am writing this log so that should we be overrun, I may document the foul beings that attck. One thing is for sure: that they shall attack at some point. When they do, we must be prepared to meet them with steel and dwarven might. I apologise for some of the writing in this book, as it is not a thing that comes easily to me. But i feel that as a Dwarf i must do this, as it will help our nation if the worst comes to the w orst. :: For now, the preparations for the attack are well underway. I am training up young Dyrim Vaant as a legionary, a boy with the potential to be a fine warrior. The Kal'Alras Guards are also training well, and I have been making plans with Lord Algoda about how to defend the town. :: As it is, we have decided to have 3 lines of defence in the event of attack. The first line is the outer wall, containing Fort Gold, the Kal'Alras bank and some housing. This has a small wall and all we wish to do is to keep them at bay here while we move our people and our arms further into the city. The second wall is the main city wall. This contains the city proper, with the marketplace and most of the housing, aswell as the manor and caverns. this line is inherently more defensible than the first, as the walls are higher and cannot be scaled as easily. The gatehouse is strong, and will be filled with arrow traps to attempt to thin out the undead horde. Behind these gates, my men will be waiting with bow and axe and sword for them, and we shall fight there. should this level be breached, we must retreat to the manor house. If it comes to this, then may God help us all. It means that the city will have fallen and that we are not an army but a resistance force. Again, if possible we will move as much as possible with us, so that we can better defend ourselves and not allow them to plunder this magnificent city. :: Of course, this only applies if the horde does indeed reach us. After the initial attacks on some small northern villages, and another small attack repelled by Lord Algoda with some legionnaries, there has been little news of the undead. But we fear this may mean that they are planning something big, something horrible that we can barely imagine. :: For now, we say we are tired of waiting, but in reality we all know that we shall long for this if the attack does come. :: In the last few days things have taken a turn for the worse. in addition to the greater stories of the undead, many bandits and thieves have appeared. in the last week alone, we have caught and executed 4 for breaking in and not surrendering. This loss of order worries me, as people become more desperate as towns are razed to the ground. These people have lost their homes and livelihoods, and see this as a way of getting it back. however, due to everyone being so jumpy, strangers looting the town do not go down well and the Guardians mete out swift, terrible destruction. :: Today an Orc named General Scyther came round recruiting for his warband. While obviously we have our own problems, he told us of the fall of Winterfell, being one of those who was sent to assist but got there too late. The undead had sacked the town, buildings were on fire and bodies littered the streets. These are truly dark times we live in. :: The grave nature of the undead was finally revealed to us of Kal'Alras. As i suspected, Fyrste Dalek had become corrupted by the evil taint, yet he returned. After breaking into the town and looting the fort for clues of our defenses, he attacked some of the guards with a bow before fleeing. Rumour has it that he attacked the Lord Algoda, although he was finally forced to retreat by his Guards.
